Prancer: Palomino - Cowboy or Lucky Ranger Music Box

Sears: 1955-1957 as 'Musical Cowboy-On-Horse'. Plays 'Home on the Range', and includes either the Cowboy and/or Lucky Ranger (both advertised for different years in the Sears catalogs) with 2 guns, a sharpshooter rifle, hat and removable saddle, plus a music box key. Music box parts are Swiss made. Original price $5.98. Most Music Box models have 2 visible screws; however, the earliest models only had the one wind up screw. The second one was needed to help secure the box inside the horse.

This is the #P43 Palomino Prancer with Cowboy or Lucky Ranger. (See record #P42 for model details). Set #P343 came with a medium to dark brown hard plastic cinch-less Western saddle with tapaderos, rifle, 2 handguns and a removable cowboy hat. The guns and hat can be found in several shades of brown (as seen in the photos) with the grey color being less common.

The Lucky Ranger and Cowboy are the same molds, have the same 'Howdy Doody' style face, and have dark brown hair, eyes and eyebrows with red lips. The Lucky Ranger wears a light tan jacket with gold fringe, white shirt, turquoise neckerchief and dark brown chaps (the 1958-59 release has a red neckerchief and bare white plastic shirt). The Cowboy wears a buckskin jacket with unpainted fringe, turquoise shirt, red neckerchief and dark brown chaps. They are sculpted by Chris Hess, and have no mold marks or Copyright Stamps.
